Capital and Business Alliance with MITAS Medical Inc.

We are pleased to announce a third-party allotment of investment in MITAS Medical Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Naofumi Kita, CEO; hereinafter referred to as “MITAS Medical”), a provider of remote ophthalmic diagnosis service. This capital and business alliance will form a strategic partnership.

MITAS Medical’s mission is “To provide medical services where it cannot be reached” and aims to create a world where people have equal access to prevention, early detection, and early treatment of eye diseases in underpopulated areas, remote islands, developing countries, and all other places where there is a shortage of ophthalmologists.

TAKAGI and MITAS Medical co-developed the MS1 Mobile Slit Lamp, which can be easily used by non-ophthalmologists, and have started selling the product this year in about 80 countries including Japan. 

In addition, MITAS Medical has built a remote diagnosis system that connects ophthalmologists with areas where there are no ophthalmologists by combining the MS1 Mobile Slit Lamp with a dedicated application developed independently. They have conducted trials in Japan and overseas, and have already started providing the services in some areas.

By forming a capital and business alliance with MITAS Medical, we will promptly respond to the growing needs for remote diagnosis due to the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate our contribution towards the spread of remote medical care.

Through this capital and business alliance, TAKAGI and MITAS Medical will make further progress towards the realisation of the corporate philosophy of both companies.
